Counseling
Individual and Group Counseling are key components of Comprehensive Vision Rehabilitation Services. Adjusting to becoming blind or visually impaired can be a very frightening and traumatic experience for many people.
Using a variety of therapeutic techniques, the Adjustment Counselor collaborates with each client to develop individualized goals to address the psychological and emotional aspects of learning to live with vision loss.
Each client participates in weekly individual counseling sessions. During these sessions, clients have the opportunity to process feelings of grief and loss. They also develop the skills and support needed to help move toward a greater acceptance of blindness or visual impairment. The Adjustment Counselor provides case management services and will link clients with appropriate community resources.
The Adjustment Counselor facilitates a weekly group attended by all the Rehab Center clients. Group is a supportive and affirming place where individuals are encouraged to share their successes and challenges as they continue working through the adjustment process.
