Manual Skills

Cal Glover instructs a rehab client on replacing a door knob in the manual skills area

In the Manual Skills program, clients are provided the opportunity to develop confidence, organizational skills, safe and efficient work habits, spatial relationships, dexterity (fine motor skills), and tactual awareness.  Enhancing these basic skills will assist the client in approaching any practical task in his or her home and other environments.  Instructional areas used to enhance skills include an introduction to basic tools, methods of home repairs, leather making, and minor woodworking.

Manual Skills is not considered vocational training or craft.  However, some clients may develop a vocational interest or hobby as a result of their participation in this class.  Usually, the experiences gained in Manual Skills will result in the client having increased knowledge and skills, along with the self-confidence and motivation for hobbies and/or home maintenance activities.
